Q: Will Archer Tools run under the Microsoft Vista Operating System and Windows 7?
A: Yes, on our test machines the tools seem to install and run fine as long as the UAC (User Account Control) is set "on" and the installer has administrative privileges. When the UAC is turned "off", the programs may not run and an error message maybe displayed. We will continue to test Archer Tools on Vista and Windows 7 and make any necessary changes to improve compatibility. Specific issues should be forwarded to our support team via the email address at the top of the page.
Q: I tried installing the ATC tools and I get this error message:"Error 1931. The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\WINNT\System32\xxxx.xxx because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly." What should I do?
A: Some versions of Windows (like XP) have a security feature that won't allow changes to certain files. The installer program is looking for a newer version of this file than what is on your machine. Just ignore this error message and continue installation. If the help files (or the program) do not work properly, you might consider downloading the latest Service Pack or upgrades for your version of Windows. Most older versions of these files will still work fine.
Q: I tried installing an ATC tool and I get this message:"The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?" Is there something wrong with the file I downloaded?
A: Due to cost considerations, our Demo programs do not contain a digital signature. As a result, some versions of Windows will generate the message you encountered. Ordinarily, this does not mean there is a problem with the file, and this warning can be ignored. However, it is possible that any file can be corrupted or tampered with when downloaded from the Internet. We suggest that you use every precaution to safeguard your computer by scanning downloads for viruses and spyware. If security concerns prevent you from enjoying our trial Demos, please contact us.

ISSUE: Use of double quotes in variable names causes errors.
RESOLUTION: In Version 1.16 and later: Double quotes are now illegal characters in variable names. Data from corrupted files from previous versions may be recovered. Contact Us.
ISSUE: Data in columns of the Solution Table are cut-off by the scroll bar.
Resolution: The width of the columns are adjustable. Try this:
1. Move the curser to the spot at the top of the table between the first and second columns, (a horizontal doubled arrow icon should appear)
2. Click and drag the arrow to the left. (That should shrink the first column and bring all of the second column into view).
3. With this technique you can size the columns to whatever size you want. The second column width is controlled by moving the curser to the outside edge at the top of the table.
It is possible that all the data names and values cannot display in the space showing. You can always select the entire table and copy and paste it into an Excel spreadsheet where the columns can be easily manipulated.

Q: Where is the Target Generator Tool?
A: The Target Generator Tool is an Excel spreadsheet template and is normally placed in the "C:/Program Files/Archer Tools/Atc_lc " folder on your computer when you install the demo version of LC_TRIAL. If you choose to install LC _TRIAL in another folder, look for it in the different folder you selected. There should also be a shortcut to the Target Generator Tool in your Start Menu at Start>Programs>Archer Tools>Target Generator Tool (Excel) if you have downloaded the latest version. If you still cannot locate this file, contact us and we will send it to you.
Special Note: This file is passworded and locked in the demo version. There is, however, a demo non-functioning spreadsheet that illustrates the operation of the Target Generator. It can be found in the same folder as the regular Target Generator Tool or in the Start Menu at Start>Programs>Archer Tools>Target Generator Demo (Excel).
Registered Users: To activate all functions you must open the file in Excel, select "enable macros", and enter the password you received when you registered your copy. The password is case sensitive so be sure the letters are captitalized. If your security level is set too high, Excel will not enable macros and the functions won't work. To change your security level see below.
Q: When I try the Target Generator nothing happens when I click the buttons.
A: Our Target Generator Tool uses macros. Your Excel program has the highest level of security set which automatically disables all macros.
As macros can contain viruses Microsoft has created different levels of protection for your own security. To run macros your security level needs to be set to medium. To change the security level for macro virus protection go to the Excel menu and do the following:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Under Macro Security, click Macro Security.
4. Click the Security Level tab, and then select the security level you want to use.
We recommend you use the security level "Medium". This means you will be asked each time you open an Excel workbook that contains macros whether you want to Disable or Enable macros. If you trust the source of the macros select Enable Macros.
If you select Low you won't be warned if a workbook contains macros. Low should only be used if you have anti-virus software installed and you trust all your software suppliers.
